My House Wine

There are things that truly make a home: family, dogs, and of course, a house wine. One of my dear friends Laura once shared with me that the house wine at a very popular DC restaurant, Le Diplomate, is La Vieille Ferme. There are a few things to unpack here:
If you have not been to Le Diplomate, make a reservation ASAP if you're in the DC area. The roast chicken is legendary and I'm pretty sure the burger was named one of the best burgers in DC.
For the price of a bottle of house wine at Le Diplomate ($28 at the time of this publication), you buy the exact same bottle at any grocery store for under $12. GAME ON if you ask me.
There is a lot of La Vieille Ferme that I drink. During the winter months I drink their Rouge: a mix of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault with strong berry notes of blackberry, raspberry, and maybe even a little blueberry. It's the ideal winter house wine to drink in gallons to help you stay warm in the wintery months.
During the summer, I swap the Rouge for the Rosé. It's not as dry as I like my rosés, but it's easy to drink and just slightly fruity. I feel like it's a combination of slight raspberry with just the right level of sweetness.
I'm not saying these are the best wines I've ever had, but I do recommend you keep a few bottles on hand for unexpected guests. This will soon become the house wine of your choice.
